Our Story
The idea for Brooklyn Mahjong began when our founder took Mahjong lessons while traveling. She quickly fell in love with the rhythm of the game — the strategy, the quiet focus, and the sense of connection it creates around a table.
When she set out to purchase a tile set, most of what she found had completely redesigned the game's traditional iconography. It made playing the game — especially as a newcomer — confusing.
Those symbols are the heart of the game. You wouldn’t replace the suits on a deck of playing cards, so why change the tiles designs in mahjong? That question became the foundation for Brooklyn Mahjong: created to honor the beauty and heritage of the game, not rewrite it.
Our Vision
At its core, Brooklyn Mahjong is about connection, inclusivity, and the simple joy of gathering face-to-face without screens. Our vision is to preserve the legacy of the game while making it accessible to a new generation of players. We hope to share the beauty of Mahjong with as many people as possible.
